Headstand Workshop - A Safe, Supported Approach at 6-8PM on 6th JAN 2011

Learn a systematic, safe, step-by-step headstand technique, explore the bandhas and practice proper headstand alignment.  This workshop is designed to assist those new to headstand in learning safe steps that will eventually lead to full headstand, and it will help experienced students fine-tune and prolong their headstand practice.  A full page detailed instruction sheet provided. 


Yoga Nidra:  The Experience of Deep Relaxation at 630-800PM on 10th JAN 2011

In Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation), you are guided to progressively relax the body, breath, and mind.  In this state, profound physical healing takes place as you experience the depth of your own inner peace. Gentle Hatha Yoga stretches prepare you for a lengthy experience of deep relaxation, which is the centerpiece of the class, followed by simple breathing techniques and meditation.  Reinforce your true peaceful nature.  (Yoga)


Eat and Drink Your Greens:  Juice, Soup, Smoothie & Salad

Sound familiar?  Greens are at the top of the list of nourishing, protective foods.  Greens make us think more clearly, besides being Mother Nature's sedative.  In this hands-on class, you'll receive written recipes for making super-delicious green drinks, green smoothies, and meals featuring green soups and salads.  Learn how to make a dark green leafy vegetable salad taste as if it had been cooked.  Discover the nutritional differences between juicing, blending, and massaging greens and when it's best to use them. This workshop-the first in a series-will encourage you to incorporate more raw and living foods into your diet.  (Food Demonstration)


Self-Healing and the Five Bodies:  Incorporating Yoga into Daily Life

According to yoga, diseases are disorders of consciousness involving the five bodies known as the koshas.  In the yogic view, real healing requires restoring consciousness on all these five levels, fostering integrated functioning.  When attention is brought to these five levels of consciousness, healing can become spontaneous. What are these five bodies? How do they determine our degree of health? Do we really have the ability to heal ourselves? How can we raise our consciousness to facilitate healing and balance? What are the best yoga practices to promote self-healing? Come learn how to make the five bodies work toward your own healing. Lifestyle:  Moment by Moment Living

A Yogic lifestyle consists of vegetarianism (doing the least harm to beings), daily meditation, a regular Yoga practice, and living in witness consciousness.  This workshop provides an overview of the practical tools that make the spiritual teachings come alive:  Breath awareness, focus exercises, stress management techniques, and Yoga philosophy.  It will be taught in an accessible, practical manner. You’ll also learn about nutritious foods that support your best self.  Most important, you’ll be inspired to incorporate these practices in a simple, stress-free way into your daily life.  (Food and Yoga)


Superfoods:  Mighty Powerful Energizing Snacks

Learn about the top superfoods, how to add them to your diet, and why they are crucial to your health.  Plant-based and highly nutritious, superfoods supplement your diet and contain high levels of minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and essential fats. Superfood snacks will keep you energized throughout the day without involving a roller-coaster emotional ride and depressing empty calories.  They are great before and after Yoga class or at the mid-afternoon and late evening binge-on-anything snack time.  You’ll learn to make raw-energy cookies, carob/chocolate bars, smoothies and Yogi gels and create your own trail mix and granola combinations using few ingredients but ones that have a high nutrient density.   (Food Demonstration)


Raw Food Basic Class:  The Essentials

The three main teachings of the Raw Food Basic Class are.(1) how to make delicious-nutritious meals from fresh "real" whole foods (2) in an easy-quick way to fit your lifestyle and (3) while having a blast!  As a participant, you'll learn:  how to avoid costly disappointments and wasted foods that comes with trial and error; techniques to make dark green leafy veggies taste amazing! (4 out of the 10 recipes are made with dark leafy greens -"sunlight foods") which is a major food for the prevention of cancer ; how to make (nonharming) dairy foods from plants which "really" contain vitamins and minerals; food combinations that sustain your energy; the top superfoods and herbs for nurioushment; the magical world of sprouts - key to energy; the vibratory quality of foods to elevate your spirits


Not only is the MW RFBC class a hands-on class, but also interwoven in the class, you'll be creating an action plan to incorporate it in your life.   When you leave the class you'll have clear instructions (recorded by) on how to make it happen in your life.  The teachings are bound to last you a lifetime!

Lifestyle Tools for Career Transitions

Transitions are always challenging and being unemployed is one of the major stressors in life.   The workshop will cover the best foods for focus and mental clarity and a simple stretch routine to do anywhere.  In addition, we will cover a systematic way to respond (instead of react) to the stress activators.  By keeping the mind focus and the body limber, we develop the mental capacity to answer the tough interviewing questions.  (Stress Management and Food Demonstration)


An Enlighten Ride

We will discuss and demonstrate how the various forms of yoga which include breathing, stretching, meditation, & spirituality can certainly complement cycling in addition to keeping you grounded and focused. Maria also produces raw energy snacks and will discuss these products and recipes and have some samples for you to try. You are also invited to tour Jivamukti Yoga School (Yoga and Food)


Plug-In to Higher Frequencies

We are indeed electric beings vibrating at different frequencies.  The physical body is a conduit in which energy (life force) passes and animates it.  To vibrate at a higher frequency, we need to feed ourselves with the highest vibrating elements.  Participants will experiment and explore how to tune their frequency to a higher vibration:  “Cook” food with the electricity from our hands, practice breathing exercise to elevate and expand consciousness and identify high vibration whole food.  “…the vibrations of anything you put into the organism modifies the vibrations of the total organism”-Ram Dass.

Flax Appeal Raw Food Workshop-Making Foods with Flaxseeds

The nutritional benefits of using (omega3’s, fiber, protein) in salads, smoothies, juices, and sandwiches are tremendous.  Now, learn why foods made with flaxseeds are so beneficial and how to make your own.  In this workshop, you’ll receive recipes, sprout flaxseeds, and make crisp, crunchy crackers, soft, delicious breads, trail mixes and desserts using ground and whole flaxseeds.  The crackers and bread will be made on a dehydrator to preserve the vital enzymes and essential nutritional qualities.  Then, you’ll taste what you’ve made!  (Food)


We will define sugar and discuss some of the effects of its consumption, from cravings, energy and weight imbalances, fatigue, and mood swings to PMS, diabetes, heart disease, yeast infections and hypoglycemia. We will examine factors that contribute to uncontrollable cravings and affect our bodies, daily lives, moods, and energy levels. Conduct an experiment: For two days, make a strong determination not to eat sweets, and notice the effects on the mind and how you feel. Report back during the workshop. Participants will be given a list of suggestions for taming the sugar habit and reducing the craving for sugar.  (Lecture)

In this fun and energetic workshop, you’ll learn to identify foods that give you energy and foods that deplete it. And you'll learn techniques for bringing awareness to aspects of your life that "feed" you resulting in increase energy. In this lively discussion and to spark your interest in eating foods closer to Mother Nature, we will define raw foods, what makes it living, its many benefits and how to incorporate more vegetables and fruits in your daily diet in its many forms. In a world in search of longevity, high energy, peace and happiness, simply nothing comes close than the nectars and precious gifts from our Mother Nature. What kind of impact is asthma having on your life?  Are you ready for a new way to control that highly challenging condition?  If so, come share your story and learn yogic tools:  Asanas, breathing practices, and meditation techniques - that will help you manage asthma using a simple holistic approach.  The workshop will begin with an intention and the chanting of an ancient healing mantra.  You will learn to identify asthma triggers and the foods both to avoid and to include in your diet.  By the end of the workshop, you will have created your own, customized asthma action plan. A gentle, noncompetitive introduction to this ancient practice:  In a session designed for beginners, you'll learn what yoga actually means.  You'll explore differences between the many yoga styles popular in the West.  And with Maria's guidance, you'll discover which yoga style suits your needs and your lifestyle.  As part of the session, Maria will lead you through a chair yoga sequence, with breathing exercises to calm the mind - the perfect way to decompress from a busy workday.
